I’ve spent the last ten months yearning for my mum as I navigate postpartum anxieties and isolation without her. I yearn for her words of advice and long for her to meet, hold and kiss my littlest and to watch my oldest grow. In preparation for Milk Bath, we spent time collecting items made by or that belonged to my late mum (and grandmother of my children) who passed two years ago now.

Milk Bath is a performance with my two daughters, Mavi and Edie. We wear the clothes my mum left behind and we soak in the bath, giving the audience a glimpse into the sweet and tender moments between mother and child. With homemade breastmilk soap, we will cleanse my mum’s clothes worn on our bodies and the ones scattered across the floor. With the milk from my body that once nourished Mavi and now Edie, we will soak, sponge, rinse and lather with care in search of a connection to our matrilineal line.
