BRONZE CASTING: THE LOST WAX PROCESS

SERIES SUMMER ARTS AT RED DEER POLYTECHNIC 2023/2024

One of my main focuses is on soft sculptural forms and transcending my work through material and corporeality. I tend to utilize materials traditionally associated with women and craft, however, I am thrilled at the opportunity to continue to learn how to translate my work in a more industrious material.

I am at a point in my career where I would like to make work that could stand time, be collected, and would like to understand more about public art. As mentioned briefly above, I work in textiles, pantyhose, knitting, crochet and silicone, yarns and threads. The materials I use offer texture, organic shapes and support the themes around my work in a way that some industrial materials cannot. At times, I feel limited material-wise. Most of my work is fragile, soft and must be kept indoors. Iā€™m motivated to search for ways I can be uncompromising in my practice, while creating durable, lasting work. Being able to participate in this course has broadened the scope of my practice, where and how I can show work. I feel like there is something special in taking an object that is temporary and translating it into a material that will last a lifetime.

I am working on getting some great photographs of my growing woven bronze series.
